Internet Cleaning Day 2008
Following is the text of an email sent out by our own Alexander Gotham, Director, Internet Cleanliness. Please read this message and forward it to everyone on your contact list in order to ensure that all internet users have been notified.
To All Internet Users:
PLEASE NOTE:
As many of you may already know, April 1 is the day on which the Global Internet Maintenance Organization (GIMO) performs its annual cleaning of cyberspace.
This cleaning will take place on April 1, 2008 from 0:00 GMT to 23:59 GMT. Please note that this is Greenwich Mean Time and make adjustments as necessary for your timezone.
Our efforts this year include removal of dead hyperlinks from certain key sectors of the internet as well as the cleanup of emails lost in transit (these are really causing a problem in many areas). In addition to these tasks, we will be employing new high pressure information jets to clear out the awful bottlenecks that have been the cause of reduced bandwidth world-wide.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
In order to facilitate a more effective and thorough cleaning, we are asking that all internet users do the following:
- Disconnect all internet-connected devices (this includes routers, modems, computers, servers, WebTV devices, and any device capable of accessing wireless networks).
- Shutdown all computers, terminals and servers.
- Leave these disconnected for the duration of the Internet Cleaning Period.
It is very important that you heed these requests to make this year's Internet Cleaning Day as efficient and problem-free as possible. Users not following these requests will be asked to leave the internet for a period as yet undetermined.
